Eleven permanent artworks will be installed in Rijeka and its surrounding area, more specifically at ten locations across the Kvarner region as part of this flagship, one of seven overall. The artworks, installations and sculptures uniformly deal with the specificities of the locations where they are being installed.
All this artwork touches upon certain specifics of the area and is inspired by stories that are relevant to the local population but impossible to find in any of the usual Tourist Board brochures.
Throughout 2020, well-known and acclaimed artists from Croatia and around the world will be making a variety of permanent art sculptures in towns and villages along the coast as part of the Lungomare Art project of the European Capital of Culture.
A highlight of April and May of this year were the study visits of a few Lungomare artists with the aim of becoming thoroughly familiarized with the locations selected for the research that will culminate in permanent art installations.

The Lungomare flagship of the Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture project will display permanent artworks at 10 locations in the Kvarner region: Brseč, Lovranska Draga, Volosko, the Rijeka fish market, Grčevo beach in Rijeka, Kostrena, Crikvenica, Lopar on Rab Island, near Baška on Krk Island and on Mali Lošinj.
From March to May renowned Croatian and regional writers will spend from three to four weeks in writer's residencies in 15 locations comprising Rijeka 2020 ECOC Lungomare programme.
