Lit.EU festival

Lit.EU is a small European Literaturefestival on the adriatic, in the historic coastal town Opatija (Croatia). In Hotel Miramar, in which Vladimir Nabokov lived, writers meet to read in German from their works.

A place to get to know eachother and to exchance ideas: to be inspired and to discover new `Lebenswelten` behind new bookworlds. With philosophical Cafês, Literary Walks or Yoga for Literati, the Lit.EU wants to be a cosmopolitan literary festival, where everyone is welcome who is interested in the written word and believes that a book is not just a commodity but a force, not just comsumer good, but existential experience.

The authors read in German. The hotel has predominantely german speaking guests and Opatija itself has since the Danube-monarchy repeatedly attrachted Austrian guests. Nonetheless, one of the gouls of our festival is to overcome borders by involving other languages in the future through simultaneous translations. However, the aim is also to promote the German language in Croatia and to invite young Croatians to our festival, for example from schools, language institutes or universities. We want to contribute to the cultural exchance in Croatia and Europe.

In 2020 with Ilija Trojanow (BUL/ GER), Anne-Dohre Krohn (GER) and Denis Scheck (D). Writer and organisator Ben Rakidzija welcomes you!
