The City of Rijeka presented its candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2020 at the international conference of the Les Rencontres network, held in the French city of Lille.
Along with the City of Rijeka, one of the partners in the project Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture is the Primorje – Gorski kotar County.
Inspired by work as a thematic unit of the City of Rijeka’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2020 concept proposal and the wish and need to include the activities of educational institutions in the creative processes of preparation, the programme named “Work as a Gift” was designed and will be conducted by Izabela
Meetings with the representatives of the independent scene were held to discuss the topic of the European Capital of Culture 2020, and one discussion was held within the Fluid States manifestation.
On Monday, 20 October 2014, within the international conference European Interdisciplinary Studies: (New) Challenges for Europe in a Changing World / Knowledge – a Key Tool for a Better Europe, the Rijeka candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2020 was presented.
Rijeka, as the candidate city for the European Capital of Culture 2020, invited all those who had an idea on how to turn a concept (port=work, water, diversity) into music, who wanted to become DJ-ambassadors/promoters of the candidacy and perform in promotional parties, to send in their mixes.
On 13 June 2014, members of the concept council (Idis Turato, Marin Blažević, Mani Gotovac, and Slaven Tolj), Mayor Vojko Obersnel, and head of the Department of Culture Ivan Šarar presented the proposal of the concept of the City of Rijeka’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2020 on the Marina ship.
