Presentation of the City of Rijeka at WTM in London

Last week, the City of Rijeka was presented in London as the holder of the 2020 European Capital of Culture title at WTM, one of the world’s leading travel trade shows.

The presentation of Rijeka as a year-round tourist destination was delivered in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Kvarner Tourist Board.

The presentation of the Kvarner region, which was organised by the Director of the Kvarner Tourist Board Irena Peršić Živadinov, Prefect of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Zlatko Komadina as well as key actors in Croatian tourism, the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić and the Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia Gari Cappelli, was held as part of the travel show.  A guest of the presentation was the travel journalist and Editorial Director at Lonely Planet Tom Hall, who has visited Croatia several times and expressed his delight at the positive changes taking place in the city of Rijeka. Lonely Planet named Kvarner as one of the top 10 best destinations and a must-visit region in 2020. A number of prestigious media outlets, including National Geographic, CNN and the BBC, attended the presentation.

WTM London

Many foreign media outlets and world tourism organisations showed great interest in the city of Rijeka and the Kvarner region. The title of European Capital of Culture, which will be held by Rijeka in 2020 (the first Croatian city to do so), drew the most attention.

The travel trade show was an excellent introduction to the extensive programmes and the plethora of events scheduled for 2020.
