A study visit to Krk was organised as part of the Performance studies International preconference that is, in coordination with Croatia National Theatre, held in Rijeka between the 3 and 7 of June.
The director of Krk Cultural Centre Maja Parentic, the representative of the neighbourhood Krk Luka Adzic Kapitanovic and Branka Cveticanin as the program manager of 27 neighbourhoods, welcomed the guests in the Exhibition Area Decumanus. In collaboration with Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, Decumanus held a retrospective exhibition of the work of late Ivana Popovich. Parentic talked about this artist extraordinary contribution revealing the bond Popovich had with the city Krk.
Branka Cvjeticanin elaborated on the importance of working with local communities, the projects tendency to decentralise contemporary art and cultural content, and about the methodology of connecting local neighbourhoods with their European partners. While presenting the programme that will be held in Krk, Adzic Kapitanovic spoke of combining contemporary and traditional musical canons, the relationship between dance, heritage and local customs. Prentic welcomed us with great ham, cheese and vine from local food producers, and gave us delicious homemade desserts for the road. We will make sure to visit our hosts again very soon.
