Applications for the Diversity Mixer, an international conference on diversity in culture and the creative industries, which will be held from 12 to 14 September at Rijeka’s RiHub, Grahovčeva 1, are free of charge. About 30 domestic and international cultural and creative practitioners and workers in the fields of culture, science, arts and the media will participate in the conference organised by Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture and the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka.
The working language of the conference is English and participation is free of charge, with mandatory application via a link until 10 September 2019. The International Conference on Diversity in Culture and the Creative Industries will be attended by prominent experts and cultural workers:
Lev Manovich, a leading digital culture theorist, Director of Cultural Analytics Lab and author of the classic book The Language of New Media will present the initial results of Elsewhere, a new research project analysing millions of posts on social media and records the changes in the relationship between the periphery and the centre of new cultural geographies.
Allisa Quart, Guardian columnist and Executive Director of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, will showcase an innovative model applied by her organisation in reporting on inequality.
Mark Taylor from the University of Sheffield will introduce the research project Panic! Class, Taste and Inequalities in the Cultural and Creative Industries.
Srđan Laterza, writer and creative director, will talk about socially conscious video games.
Ilija MIlošević of Universal Music Group Serbia will introduce trends in the global and regional music industry.
Srđan Sandić, who is visiting Rijeka with the Reading Theatre forum, during which Nataša Antulov will show a “different side of theatre in Croatia” using the Fifth Ensemble and others as an example.
The conference is realized as part of the Diversity mixer project, which is financed by the European Union Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020) and is implemented jointly by RIJEKA 2020 d.o.o. and the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka, in cooperation with the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development as an associate partner.
