In cooperation with the City of Rijeka and the Agency Rijeka 2020, German Culture Forum for Central and Eastern Europe announces a scholarship for a Writer in Residency (m/f) in Rijeka/Fiume/St. Veit am Pflaum (Croatia), financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
Authors who speak or write in German and who already have authorial or journalistic publications are invited to apply for the Residency in Rijeka. In particular, those authors are invited who want to get involved in the interaction of literature and historical cultural heritage of the city, the region and the country.
The scholarship of the German Culture Forum for Central and Eastern Europe aims to make the common cultural heritage of Germans and their neighbours in regions of Central and Eastern Europe, where (among other nations) Germans once lived and still live, known to the general public and to promote outstanding commitment to mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue.
The Writer in Residency has to participate in the cultural life of the City of Rijeka and to thematize and reflect on topics of common culture and history in the city in her/his work, as well as to convey them vividly to broad circles. The literary approaches to the city and its cultural landscape will be continuously documented in an Internet blog, which will also be translated into Croatian.
In December 2019, a five-member jury will decide on the awarding of the city writing office, combined with a monthly scholarship of 1,300 euros for five months (spring to autumn 2020), free accommodation in Rijeka and travel funds.
Interested applicants must send their application documents to the Kulturforum by 11 October 2019 (date of postmark). The application form can be found on our website. Only complete application documents can be considered.
