Music for Galway & Galway European Capital of Culture 2020
In 2020, Galway has been designated European Capital of Culture and will host a year-long programme of cultural and artistic events. As part of the programme, Music for Galway has created a new cello festival entitled Cellissimo, running from April 25th to May 3rd 2020. Worldclass cellists, orchestras and other musicians will take part in the festival which we envisage as triennial festival.
Cellissimo will include an International Student Programme (ISP) and we are contacting all music conservatoires in Europe to encourage your cello students and recent graduates to apply. The following cellists will give masterclasses during the festival: Giovanni Sollima, Naomi Berrill, Adrian Mantu, Christopher Marwood, Laura van der Heijden, István Várdai, Natalie Haas, Nicolas Altstaedt, Jakob Koranyi, Hannah Roberts, Mischa Maisky and Marc Coppey.
The Cellissimo ISP will take place in Galway city from April 26th to May 2nd 2020. Over this period there will be 12 Masterclasses, each 3 hours long, given by the 12 different cellists. Each participating student will take part in the masterclasses, have the opportunity to perform pop-up concerts in Galway and also take part in two concerts: The Cellisimo Grand Finale concert on May 2nd 2020 and a student showcase concert at the end of the programme on May 3rd 2020.
It is also envisaged that the students avail of the opportunity to assist with the Cellissimo performances by the main invited guest cellists. Hostel/B+B accommodation will be
provided for all ISP participants for the duration of the programme.
The entry requirements are as follows:
• applicants must currently be a student or a recent graduate (2yrs).
