The A Mosaic for Kružna workshop will be held between 21 and 27 September from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Student Cultural Centre (8 Kružna Street) and in Kružna Street.
At the workshop, attendees will learn about mosaic as an art technique, and receive practical lessons on how to make a mosaic on the wall by the passage leading into Kružna Street next to Erste Bank, thus beautifying this run-down and often vandalised part of Rijeka.
The workshop will be facilitated by Matko Kezele, an artist from Rijeka. Ceramic waste, collected from several of the many illegal landfills in Rijeka and its surroundings, will be the primary material used for making the mosaic. This is an attempt to raise awareness of the irresponsible behaviour leading to environmental degradation, and in the spirit of a circular economy, send out a message that waste can sometimes be used as a resource, as long as we dispose of it in a responsible manner.
So, if you have a surplus of ceramic tiles at home that you don’t need any more, bring them to the workshop, and together we will create a work of art out of them.
The unveiling of the mosaic is scheduled for Tuesday, 29 September, at 5 p.m. in Kružna Street, where you can expect good company, refreshments, and music hits played by DJs from Radio Roža.
The number of attendees is limited, and you are required to confirm your attendance at prijava.mozaik@gmail.com or by calling 0915563356 (Nika) to inform us about the number of days you are planning to attend during the week-long workshop, in case you will not be able to attend the workshop every day.
