The third annual Lovran Classic Festival has been revamped, and now offers five concert performances instead of the usual three. The concerts will be held at the Sloboda Cinema and Trg sv. Ivana (St. John’s Square) in Lovran on 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18 September at 8 p.m..

The primary goal of the Lovran Classic classical music festival is to start holding serious music concerts in Lovran, because it is the only place in Liburnia that does not provide such cultural content. As part of the European Capital of Culture programme, the Lovran Classic will showcase prominent local classical musicians, including a concert performance by Bartolomej Stanković, a younger-generation musician from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who will be representing young national composers, and the premiere of the new composition by Juraj Marko Žerovnik, a young composer and musician from Rijeka. The festival also presents the In Friendship concert, which is inspired by the widespread topic of migration and the history of our area, with performances of works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Boris Papandopulo, and Béla Bartók.

The theme of the In Friendship concert draws on the ideas reflected in the conceptual elements of Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture, Migrations, and the flagship Times of Power, by invoking the historical aspect of the city as the stage of the immanent clash of various national cultures, as well as the current need for realisation in (more) contemporary creative directions.

The concert features pianists Jelena Tihomirović and Marta Karolina Cader (from Poland), flautist Metod Sironić, and Juraj Marko Žerovnik, a young composer from Rijeka who has written a piece of music especially for this occasion. In addition to the premiere, compositions by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Boris Papandopulo, and Béla Bartók will also be performed.
