European Neighbours’ Day celebrated by 27 Neighbourhoods

In the joint action called “Greetings from…” neighbourhoods of Primorje – Gorski Kotar county celebrated European Neighbours’ Day by sending postcards with specific motifs of their places, cities and islands to numerous addresses throughout Europe. Postcards were written by school and kindergarten children, volunteers, little and big athletes, pensioners, as well as random passers-by.

This almost forgotten activity of sending postcards brought back memories to the older participants, while giving the opportunity to the youngest to express themselves in a way that is not so common today.

The celebration of the European Day of Neighbors is an annual event that began in 1999 in Paris. It is now celebrated by millions of people – 1450 partner cities, housing organizations and associations are participating in over 36 European countries with more than 30 million participant. This kind of initiative points to a strong community, support, empowerment, understanding and appreciation of different cultures through various activities.

Thousands of handwritten postcards with greetings and messages in Croatian, English, German, Italian, Hungarian, Dutch and even Polish language will be delivered to their European destinations, inviting them to save the dates for their visits to Primorje – Gorski Kotar neigbourhoods in 2020.
