Porto Etno, the world music and gastro festival, whose backbone is the communities of the national minorities of Rijeka, people who found their new home in Rijeka and musical nomads from all over the world, in its third year has extended to three days and expanded to three locations: 128 brigade HV Square/Riječka Rezolucija Square, CNT Ivan pl. Zajc and Rijeka market.
The festival comprises music, gastronomy, folk dance, circus and children’s programmes that cater to everyone – residents of Rijeka, all our guests from Croatia, the region, Europe and the world!
Indigenous scents, flavours, songs and melodies of Istria and Kvarner are melded together with those from around the globe into a vibrant recipe for a multicultural and open city. The backbone of the Porto Etno festival is the ethno music and gastronomy of the countries whose minorities are active in Rijeka and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, as well as all the other world music and gastronomy that we encounter due to increasingly intense migration. We take the best of culture and nature and transform it into a spice that gives a new flavour to Rijeka. The Kitchen of Diversity creates new spaces for friendships, solidarity and tolerance.
More than 100 performers, 20 world cuisines and numerous educational programmes make Porto Etno a unique festival and the perfect epitome of the Port of Diversity, the slogan that Rijeka will use next year for their prestigious title of the European Capital of Culture.
Porto Etno is organized as part of the Kitchen of Diversity flagship of Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture, in cooperation with the City of Rijeka, associations of national minorities of Rijeka, and immigrants who have arrived in Rijeka from all over the world.
